ASM’s distribution grid supplies more than 65,000 customers in the city of Terni through about 700 secondary substations (SS).The total installed capacity is about 250 MW and an average daily electricity distribution of about 900 MWh.

A portion of the power grid including a primary substation (EX-SIT) constitutes the Italian Pilot. From EX-SIT starts the MV power line that feeds a chain of seven Secondary Substations in an in-out configuration up to the two SSs that are part of the hybrid LV AC/DC grid.

SCOV and ASM are the SSs that feed the 700 VDC section through two Active Front End  converters that will make up the portion of grid under study in this project.

This configuration ensures power redundancy equivalent to traditional AC systems, maintaining the hybrid grid’s high reliability. This portion of the AC/DC grid, located in urban environment, has connected two smart charging stations equipped with two Type 2 connector (22 kW each), two PV plants (240 kW); an office building with warehouse (maximum power 150 kW) equipped with a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) for efficiently and remotely managing the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning loads and lighting; a biodiesel generator in case of islanding and a battery storage system. A Low-Voltage SCADA System allows to monitor in real time the electric parameters, storing data in a SQL database and giving alarms in case of failures in the grid.
